Saturday Sewing with the Sisters

The girls kept themselves busy with their various projects. Two were no sew T-shirt totes    and the others were quilts. One young lady designed her own top and spent the day adding the border. It looks great! Fun times eating banana peanut butter sandwiches with spiced tea.  This quilt is having trouble. Apparently it's too scrappy and the colors touch. Eventually it will get there. Barbie always gets a lot of attention. She is frequently the recipient of new quilts, bags and dresses. The dresses were sewn from discarded leggings and long sleeve shirts with a single stitch down the back. I find these photos on the mobile devices. They've been texted to gramma.

Patchwork Skirt In Progress

    The sisters have started a gathered patchwork skirt.   Each girl measured her hips and added five inches. Then figured out how many charms they would need to make the first row. For the next row they added the same amount of charms plus half. Then repeated for each consecutive row.     Every machine worked well without problems. No one ironed their hand or sewed their fingers. The sisters seemed to have decades of experience. Much progress was made in little time. Must be Grace.

Tatjana's Quilt

         So what keeps me up this rainy evening? Tatjana's interstate quilt. Our story begins with beautiful fabric  collected  from  Sweet Pea's Quilt Company  while it was downsizing.  Those dresses and purses were just waiting for a little girl with a dream.      When Tatjana gained ownership of her room with a full size bed, she soon declared need of a larger quilt. She looked for block designs that fit the vision, but in the end it was a simple square. Her tastes gravitate more to the modern with clean lines.           Armed with several yards of fabric and a ruler she went to work on a sew day with her besties. The easiest way for this 11 year old to cut her blocks was to use the 12.5" square. To start she cut about three blocks from each fabric.
